Hello I got 2 u joints replaced, took days and grinding to get the old joints out and more machining to fit the new inner joints clips.

Now i have a scraping, and vibration when driving. it gets worse over 20 mph, its speed sensitive.

After spending 160$ Im now forced to fix it or buy a new one for 1000$

I would have to believe damage was done to the shaft if you used a grinder that would include a lot of heat and driveshafts especially at the u joints are not designed to withstand heat so if it became at all distorted it most likely means the u joints though probably not visibly aren’t sitting flush or a slight warp which will cause uneven contact on needle bearings and the noise and vibration.. sounds like your going to need a driveshaft

If you had to grind out and machine the yokes for the new u joints, you had the wrong u joints.  They are a press fit, usually with a special u join c clamp or a hydraulic press.  Your drive shaft is probably now shot and needs to be replaced.

I had the staked in part grinded away, with correct replacement u joints for any staked in nissan driveshaft. It's hard to picture, the clips are around theinner parts of the caps between the yoke ears with metal grinded for them to fit against the wall to hold the caps in. Estie centered them as much as he could and we got the clips in straight, and snug.

If you had to modify the yokes in ANY way whatsoever to get the u joints to fit, something is terribly wrong.  Check that you got the correct part numbers.  Just because they are  a Nissan drive shaft doesn't mean any Nissan u joint will fit.

It's part 430-12 from rockford driveline. The u joints caps were a slight smaller size with inner clips in the kit. some surface grinding needed to be done to have a straight clip on both sides. Hardy spicer gave me the part number. It's time to see what a shaft shop sais, to myself it seems the balance needle will be off on a machine.

These u joints use an inner snap ring.  If they seem too thick to be installed, it means the bearing cap is not pressed in far enough in the yoke.  You CANNOT grind metal away to make them fit.  You said the bearing caps were too small.  Either they fit or they don't.  If they didn't fit, they were the wrong u joints for your application.

the bearing caps were smaller than stock, with snap rings as a substitute.

If the bearing caps are smaller than they should be, you have the wrong u joints for the application.

They were the only U joint made for nissans. The original ones with slightly bigger caps were held in by stakes.

Once the stakes are gone, it's another story, those new caps have just enough room for the clips. It's up to Chris Murray now to fix the balance.

Apparently, you're not interested in listening to the facts.  If you have to grind any metal to get u joints to fit, you have the wrong u joints.  It doesn't matter that these were the only ones they had.  They are wrong.  Now, the drive shaft has been ruined.

That's what needs to be done to change a nissan staked in u joint. I identified the replacement with the hardy spicer team for the 300zx and skyline. It shares the same yoke as well.

I'm with a real expert now who does the impossible with drive trains
