How do I replace rod bearings

I'm trying to change a rod bearing on a 2017 hyundai tucson. I can't get to the 3rd rod bearing through the oil pan something is in the way. How can I get to it.  It's a 1.6 4-cylinder.

You should be using a service manual

I looked in my owners manual but it doesn't tell me how to take it apart

I didn't say owner's manual

That's not a service manual. It has nothing about servicing anything except oil changes and stuff like that. You should be following a Hyundai service manual for this kind of work. Those bearings are critical for the engine's health and survival, any ol' torque setting will not work with them, not for long, at least. Those bearings take the weight of a several-pound piston assembly moving up and down at 5 and 6k RPMs. That's not something you should be playing with unless you truly know what you're doing.

I'm asking if I need to take the timing cover off to get to the 3rd rod bearing.

If you don't have the factory shop manual available you might want to subscribe to Alldata DIY ($20 for a 30-day subscription). Check first to see if they include detailed engine rebuilding information.

A 5yr old Hyundai engine needs rebuilding?!

I'm shocked too! How the heck did it make it that far?

I sure hope you are using PlastiGauge to make sure your new rod bearings have the specified clearances.

I know what I'm doing I just don't know if I need to take off the timing cover. I've never worked on a hyundai before. I've rebuilt an engine before. I'm not asking for clearance for the bearings I'm asking if I need to take the timing cover off to get to the 3rd rod bearing. Like I said I can't get to it through the oil pan

@cgarcia0812 -  If you know what you're doing, why are you here asking?  Remove whatever is necessary to get to that rod.  Rebuilding one engine does not a mechanic make.
