S10 Drive shaft

Hey Scotty. First I'd like to say I like your no nonsense integrity in your videos.

Unfortunately I've been having problems with my 1995 S10 pickup with extended cab. It's got the manual transmission. It has the 2 piece drive shaft.

I've had a lot of problems with leakage at the transmission output. I've replaced the seal 3 times since I've owned it. This last time I noticed that the U joints needed replacement. I replaced them before so I figured no big deal. I was annoyed I only got around 20k miles out of them but I've read that S10's are notorious for U joints. Well I was doing it, I noticed the mid-baring rubber was starting to fail. so I replaced that too. I opted for the rounded 1 over the square this time cause the square one tends to have problems with the rubber tearing.

So I put it back together and realized I didn't mark it. Now I get a nasty vibration at around 50mph. I tried every combination I could come up with for the U joints. Trying to get it right. I even flipped the 2nd part of the drive shaft end over end. That seemed to help a little bit. But I still have the vibration. It did not do that before. I'm at my wits end. I contacted 2 drive shaft balancing places and they won't touch it because they are not factory U joints. They both told me to buy a new drive shaft.

It wasn't a problem before so why can't I put it back. I checked the u joints to make sure I had them in right. everything seems to be correct according to everything I have read.

Please help. Thanks.

yeah those stupid dry s*** I used to have to take into a drive shaft place in Houston where they would balance the shafts for me after the joints are replaced but they're now a swanky restaurant most of those places have gone out of business and unfortunately you often will have to get another drive shaft

Use an angle gauge to make sure you have proper driveline angles

By the way, those trucks are bad for having slipyokes that bind up and cause driveline issues. It can even crack transfer cases from the stress.
