My son has a friend who both go to the same school. His friend said he just had some work done to his car (see attached invoice) Power steering pump, Drive belt, Pump Pulley, Power Steering Fluid. They Charged him just under $900. The problem is there's still a leak. He called the mechanic back and he got defensive and said he would need to replace the rack and pinion steering to fix the issue. I looked up Scotty's find a leak using UV dye, and added the dye to see where it was leaking. It's leaking at the power steering pump. (See you tube video). I also took a picture of where you can see the UV dye coming right from the power steering pump. Question: How do we approach the mechanic to get him to fix his work? Or at least get the kid his money back? The mechanic behaves very shady like. Thoughts?
Hmm. Sometimes, AC compressor oil contains UV dye. The dark drips do look more like PS fluid though. Show the mechanic the evidence and see what he says. If he doesn't cooperate then resort to more drastic measures. If you paid with credit card, they sometimes guarantee your purchases and will return your money. Sometimes, a firmly worded registered letter is all that's required. In the worst case you might have to use a lawyer, but you would only recover the cost of labour and the pump, and maybe some damages. Not sure if that's worth your effort.
Leave a bad review on social media. That seems to matter to people these days.
First, ask him nicely to fix his work. If that fails, tell him the local TV station is going to do a story about his shop and how he rips people off. If that fails, there is always small claims court where, judging from your evidence, you have a slam dunk easy win to get your money back. No lawyer needed.
