Hey Scotty,
I am looking for a cheap commuter vehicle and came across a 2013 Kia Soul w/manual trans and 124k miles for $6k. I know Kia aren’t great but wonder if matched with the manual will give it a better reliability chance. Wanted a quick opinion before checking it out and spending money time on a inspection.
A characteristic they share with Tesla is they are prone to doing this:

engines are crap. Doesn't matter what transmission.
We are currently not recommending any vehicles from the Hyundai Motor Group and that one is already at 124,000 miles. If there was any doubt, see below:

they recently screwed up their piston rings so badly they had to recall & replace engines for 150k Souls and Seltos’. That doesn’t give me confidence even with a manual transmission.
Any cheap commuter that anyone can recommend. People are proud of their Honda’s and Toyota’s around here. Thinking a manual Nissan.
A manual Nissan is a much better prospect than any Kia..
a manual Nissan will easily outlast any Kia. A Sentra, Cube, or Altima with a manual are worth checking out.
If you like ur cars catching fire, go ahead and buy one. 🤣
IF you don't, I would run away, Kia makes a bunch of junk.
