Transmission shifts roughly

I have a 1989 Camaro RS. There is a seller that sells a GMC OBD1 to OBD2 adapter cable. I have an ELM327 Interface that I connect to Torque Pro. Should I buy a GMC OBD1 to OBD2 adapter cable?

No. It won't work. Why do you ask?

You need to use a OBD-1 compatible diagnostic tool, and even then you won't get much info out of it.

Because it is an old GM car that uses OBD1

I understand that. I'm wondering why you want to scan it. Are you having issues? Just trying to retrieve trouble codes? Trying to get live data... what?

No, it works fine except the transmission that shifts a bit rough. I changed the fluid of the transmission and I've put Lucasoil in it. It shifts better but still a bit rough. The car only has 50k miles.

Live data.

the transmission that shifts a bit rough.

Unfortunately, a diagnostic scanner probably won't help you with this because the transmission isn't electronic.

I recommend taking to a dedicated transmission shop to have it checked out.

50k original miles on the transmission?? This thing must have sat a long time.

No. The former owner was an enthusiast of Camaros. He didn't drive it much and took care of it.

Are there any OBD1 Android apps? Or perhaps for PC?

No. It requires hardware such as a Snapon MT2500

Never heard of one. Data is extremely limited in OBD1. The paperclip is the preferred OBD1 scan tool.

@chucktobias you can't read live data or perform bidirectional functions with a paperclip. It's not as limited as you think. GM vehicles has a good OBD1 system with approx 300 data parameters available.

OK, good to know. I didn't think GM had anything like that prior to the Tech2 which I thought they didn't introduce until 1992.

back then it would have been the Tech1A but the Tech2 might be compatible.
