Hi,
I have an automatic 2016 Ford Fiesta. It has 72k miles and is experiencing some slipping on its transmission. This is evidently a common problem that I didn’t know of both when I bought the vehicle and when news came out in 2019 regarding Ford transmission problems.
I’m unsure if it’s possible or how to get Ford to either 1) buy my vehicle back or 2) switch out the transmission. Any advice there?
Also, what would be my best option if turning towards getting a new / new to me vehicle?
Would you recommend new, certified preowned or purchasing from a private party? Also, would you recommend vehicles with rebuilt titles?
thanks in advance for all help!
I don't know your financial situation. But my suggestion is sell the car and don't mention anything about the transmission to the dealership when you sell it. If lucky, they won't notice anything wrong with the car and give you a good pay.
For your next car, choose either Toyota or Honda, but make Toyota priority. They make reliable cars. Stay away from rebuilt titles. There is no 100% honest people on Earth, even a priest or a monk.
The dealer will probably just say “oh, it’s normal” regarding the transmission anyways.
.
If the dealer says anything to OP about the transmission, I say turn the tables and tell the dealer “Oh, that’s normal. They all do that.”
Welcome new member,
You can find information regarding rebuilt titles and your other questions about buying new/used in the search bar above (the topics have been discussed extensively).
Best regards
There was a class-action lawsuit and a buyback because of those transmissions but that has expired. Your best bet would be to sell it or trade it in for as much as you can get for it.
You're probably better off buying new. Used car prices have inflated again and interest rates on used car loans are outrageous. (Caveat: Note in the video below these guys can be informative about the car market and dealer dirty tricks but they are also selling their own services, and this is not meant as an endorsement of those services.)
