Got a 2002 Honda Accord LX with the 2.3 4 cylinder that I've been driving for a while. Currently has 124581 miles on it. It hasn't giving me any problems yet, but the check engine light is one because of a leak in the EVAP system apparently. It might need a new fuel injector as well. And my transmission does feel a little bit rough shifting into reverse. Would flushing the transmission fluid fix that? Is the transmission going bad? Is the car worth keeping and fixing up or should I just get rid of it and get something else?
The transmission is probably going bad, they are weak in Hondas of that vintage. When is the last time the transmission was serviced? (Flushing would likely make it worse and is not recommended. See the FAQ for info on changing fluid.)
If you're in an area without emissions testing I would just keep driving it. If you do need to be emissions-tested it may be worth fixing the evap leak which could be as simple as needing a new gas cap or checking the hoses, or a mechanic might be needed to smoke test the evap system to find the leak.
The engines on those are great.
The automatic transmissions not so much. It could be going out. A flush probably would do more damage than good.
I second what @Chucktobias says on thr EVAP system.
