- I was given a 2003 Hyundai Elantra. Runs good. New timing belt, water pump. Newer tires and brakes. AC blows cold and heat works great. Manual transmission. Body decent. Only 117,000 miles. However, Won’t pass inspection due to 4 leaking struts, a bad ball joint and defrost doesn’t work. (Control on dash only blows air out of dashboard area. Looking at $2,500 -$3,000 to repair everything. It was free so not sure? Thank you in advance! Love your channel.
Kelly Blue Book (which tends to inflate used car prices) shows that car to be worth about $3000 in good condition - not needing any repairs. You're pretty much looking at repairs at least equal to and possibly in excess of the car's value, and then who knows what else will go wrong with it.
If the car repairs cost more than the value of the car, then just get a new car. If you were to keep it, that may still be worth it for like a weekend car or something to put miles on. Makes like hyundai, Kia, Nissan depreciate pretty fast after you start driving them. And they cost a fortune to maintain and repair. But like I said, it should worth it, but at this point just ride it until the wheels fall out because those makes are just expensive nuisances. If you find something like a Honda or corolla, make that your priority buy, honestly..

Yeah -

🤣, thanks.
Welcome new member. Sorry to hear about what your car needs, especially after all the recent work.
If you could do all the work yourself, might be worth it. But to pay for all that would probably not be worth it, especially since more problems are likely at that age
I appreciate your help!I found someone to fix everything for $1800. Due to it being free, low mileage, manual Transmission and car in fairly good condition I’m going ahead and getting it fixed. Where else could I get a car for $1800?
