Greetings, I have a Lexus GX470 2006 done about 290k miles. It has been a very good car so far but I live in the Arab gulf and petrol prices are getting high and since I have opened an online store and work as a teacher. I ship stock /items 2-3 times monthly but other logistics trips has increased. My idea is to sell my GX470 to buy two cars.
1. For daily commuting + weekend WHEN I don't have shipments = 2006-2010 Honda Civic or 2008-2012 Toyota Corolla.
2. For shipments and stock:
2002-2006 Escalade, suburban, or tahoe
Keep in mind I cannot increase my budget so what the GX will sell for will be my budget for the two cars. What do you think of this idea?
What do you think of this idea?
Didn’t you start asking about this car search like 6 months ago?
Anyway, a devil you know is better than 2 new used angels you haven’t a clue about..
Or maybe just save up for 1 used econobox.
Thanks for your valuable response
Should I sell (...) 2006 (...) 290k miles
Yes.
Arab gulf and petrol prices are getting high
Looking online, it's like $3.4 per gallon in the UAE, $2.3 in Saudi Arabia, $2.0 in Bahrain - it seams quite cheap.
I pay almost $6.5 a gallon, but luckily I went to electric for my commutes so fuel prices aren't a large issue anymore...
2006-2010 Honda Civic or 2008-2012 Toyota Corolla.
Some 2008-2009 Toyota Corollas with the 1.8L engine can burn oil, but the rest are amazing cars.
For shipments and stock:
2002-2006 Escalade, suburban, or tahoe
Are you sure?
These sound like pretty bad cars for business - they are not reliable, can cost tons to repair and consume lots of fuel.
What about something like a Toyota ProAce or any other reasonably efficient commercial vehicle?
Maybe consider buying a single vehicle with the capacity to be used for commutes and also perform said logistic duties.
Generally there are cars like a Toyota Verso, Prius Plus, Avensis Estate (and the many other Toyota MPV models that are sold around the world, I'm unsure on the specifics for the gulf region). In addition to some of these you can add a trailer and further increase their capacity.
Personally that's what I do, I have regular compact cars and just tow a trailer whenever I need to move stuff (even the small 1.36L eco-engine in my sub-compact SUV is able to tow a 1,500 pound trailer (with brakes) quite easily at speeds of around 60mph - although it does feel a bit slow and did require the addition of a supplemental transmission radiator)
Keep in mind I cannot increase my budget so what the GX will sell for will be my budget for the two cars
In this case you should research prices in your area and make sure you'll have enough left over to cover unexpected expenses.
What do you think of this idea?
Personally I think that depending on the volumes you can move, switching to a single reliable and efficient car.
Note that the Avensis Estate offers 1,600L of boot space with folded seats, the Verso almost 1,700L, and 1,750L in the Toyota Prius Plus...
While these are less than the 2002's Suburban's 2,960L, maybe these are enough for you needs.
Thanks for your valuable response Dan!
