Hello Everyone,
My name is Ethan. I'm a 22 year old subscriber of Scotties and I've been getting more and more into cars recently. I have a confusing issue with my car that I thought maybe you would understand. I think my mechanic is trying to pull one over on me.
I have an automatic (5L40) 2007 Saturn Sky 2.4 LE5 with about 95,000 miles. Today the check engine light came on in yellow, so I opened up the hood to inspect the issue. As soon as I opened the hood and took the engine cover off, I noticed that the PCV hose was cut (photo attached). The last time I had the car serviced was about two weeks before the engine light came on. My question to you is, do you think this is an intentional cut? Would it take 15 days for the check engine light to come on after the hose was cut? What should I do, and would this cause more issues with the car?
Prior to the engine light coming on, the coolant readout on the dash already had a bad connection, it was reading F ---, when it usually reads F~195. I already knew that I had to replace the sensor. When the coolant temp sensor is bad in this car, you get no dash readout, and the cooling fan stays on all the time. The car was showing both of these symptoms. The lack of coolant readout has been an intermittent issue for about half a year. It comes and goes with cool weather, however this fall it's functionality has been worse.
If the engine light only came on because of the coolant issue, do you think the PCV hose may have been cut not so recently?
I have heard of people cutting the PCV hose in order to get better performance, but the previous owner of this car was an old car collector, so I doubt he would have intentionally cut it.
Thank you for any help, and taking the time to read this! I know I'm a bit scattered with my thoughts!
I hope this finds you well, and thanks for all the great content!
