Sluggish acceleration

Hi Scotty, my 2003 crown Vic has a faint rattling/ticking noise that goes to the rhythm of the engine and it has had a hesitant start up occasionally. And today it had a bad start up and was accelerating very strange and sluggish. What do you think it could be?
thanks

Cleaned the throttle body and maf sensor and it made the car run better than it has in years. Lots of gunk built up

Did it fix the sluggish acceleration?

Yes. You'd have to reach into your wallet and find some money you literally want to throw away on a piece that does not work.

I've tested them all from cheapest to most expensive. They add no power whatsoever. Some make a whoosh noise, so if that means much to you go for it. But I'd save my money.

What about throttle response

They have served no benefit there either that we have seen. They also tend to cause clearance issues with aftermarket intakes as you are bumping the intake forward an inch or two.

Would I have to adjust any cables?

No cable adjustment is required.

You can pressure test the fuel line to find out. Do you have any CEL?

What’s that?

Check Engine Light.

No just changed the fuel filter and it didn’t work. It’ll run fine at night but when I start it in the morning it always acts up

Is the weather hot when you start the car in the morning?

Not really

Check the battery terminal connections. If that did not help, you might need to take the car to a mechanic to analyze the live data.

Do you think it could be a stretched timing chain? There’s been a faint ticking for several month’s

you would introduce more dirt and hot air into your filter housing. If you think you're going to get more performance then forget about it. You just want to mod your car really badly don't you?

Yes. Just looking for some cheap quick fixes

Not a good plan. A great way to get contaminated hot air sucked into your intake.

The Crown Vic isn't made for speed. Even cars made for performance don't gain much with a whole cold air intake system. I would strongly advise against cutting holes in your airbox.

How many miles on the car?

For the sluggish acceleration, clean the MAF sensor, throttle body and pressure test the fuel pump. You may check the catalytic converter and make sure it is not clogged.

138,000 miles, thanks

You're welcome. Check out this video from Scotty as well:

Hi Scotty, I got a 2003 civilian crown Vic and I want to know is there anything special that I would have to do when installing throttlebody spacer.

thank you

Hi Scotty, my 2003 crown Vic with 139k miles has been struggling with rpms. When taking off I’ll push the gas and the rpms aren’t going up like they should be. It struggles from 1200 rpm to about 1500 rpm. After that it’s fine. And the idle is a little rough. When taking off it almost sounds like it’s cutting out in the rpms. What do you think it could be? Thanks

I recently took the back two cats off which are after the oxygen sensors. There were four cats.

the idle isn’t that bad it’s mostly when accelerating with the rpms around 1200 - 1500 where it feels bad

Hi Scotty, my 2003 crown Vic with 139k miles has been cutting out between 1200 and 1600 rpm and the performance has been lacking. Do you think it’s the fuel pump or something else? Thanks

hi Scotty, I got a 2003 crown Vic with 139k miles and was thinking about upgrading the camshaft when I change the timing chain. Any suggestions on camshafts and tips for upgrading it?

Well if you start doing stuff like that it's an old engine with a lot of miles on it you're going to wear the Pistons the valves I wouldn't advise doing it those engines run good the way they were made they're not race cars and if you're going to build an engine you can't put just one part then you got to rebuild the whole thing

What about a coyote swap?

Hi Scotty, I was wondering what cutting holes in the bottom of the air box of my 03 crown Vic would do? Would it harm anything?

thanks
