Speaker making static noise when turned radio is turned off

Hi Scotty, I have a 2019 Ford Mustang.  When tropical storm Elsa came through New York I drove to work that morning but the rain and wind wasn't any worse than any other rain storm.  My car was park outside all day and during the day the wind and rain really kicked in.  That afternoon when the storm past I started my car and noticed a loud static noise coming from the passenger side dash speaker.  The radio and all other electronics were off.  I still hear a slight static coming from the speaker 3 days later. What could it be? Thanks.

some vehicles play alert chimes through the speakers. So they are still "active" even with the stereo off. Water probably got somewhere that it's not supposed to and you're hearing some distortion.

why the downvote? what happens when you turn the radio on?

Not sure what you mean by down vote but the static was still there when the radio is on. It's been a few days now and seems to have subsided but would like to know how water got onto electrical connection if that's the problem. I wasn't driving during the storm.

the up and down arrows next to my answer are for voting. I got a downvote from you but I guess it was an accident.

As a contractor, I know strong wind does strange things to houses. It creates weird pressure differentials which drag water into places it doesn't normally go. I imagine automobiles aren't so different. Hopefully the problem doesn't come back. 🙂

I believe it's called a dirty pot.  There is dirt and debris in the volume control pot causing static noise whenever it's moved.  I have no idea how to clean it out.

potentiometers are ancient history. Undoubtedly his 2019 has a rotary encoder.
