my granddaughter has a 2011 vw eos that runs rough and stalls at stops.dealer told her it was because rear main seal was bad and causing a vacum leak, is that possible ?
No, RMS does not cause vacuum leaks. If that's what he said, then dealer is walking you down the garden path.

If the rear main seal was bad you would have oil pouring out the back of the engine making a big puddle underneath and ultimately would lose so much the engine would self-destruct. Pretty hard to miss.
Run a full diagnostic scan, stay away from dealers and chain shops.
That dealer is trying to trick you into paying for a rear main seal because it's one of the most expensive things in the car. The rear main seal itself probably costs $30, it's the labor. It involves taking the transmission out, which is one of the most labor intensive jobs.
I blew a rear main seal almost 2 years ago in my 1979 Pontiac and I knew what it was right away. It started hemorrhaging oil. Valves were chattering, and I went through 5 quarts of oil in 200 miles -I took it to a shop, it was indeed the rear main, and it wasn't that hard to replace. I didn't have the tools to replace it. It wound up costing $600, because the transmission didn't need taking out.
Check for vacuum leaks. The car is 13 years old, now.
