[Solved] Steering wheel shakes at 60-70mph

My 2005 Hyundai Elantra with 145,000 miles shakes the steering wheel pretty bad at 60-70mph. If I go over 70mph, the shaking in the steering stops, but I can feel heavy vibrations under the driver seat. I just had an alignment and wheel balance last week, didn't solve the problem. Although, my local Firestone apparently isn't trustworthy so they could have actually not done the work. It also pulls slightly to the left.

I'm thinking it could be the wheel bearing but not sure. The Firestone also said the rack and pinion is leaking, but I found no evidence of that.

Recheck the balance and try a road force balance if needed

What else could it possibly be? Just trying to check off what I might need to get checked out.

The fact that it’s still pulling to the left points to an alignment issue. Find another reputed alignment shop and see what they say.

Also, how old are your tyres?

Not sure, they aren't factory, but the dealer had no info on them when I bought it. Tread depth is good and no major wear. But that doesn't mean much lol.

Thank you, I am definitely setting up an appointment for another shop this weekend.

You should be able to check the age of all your tires in 2 minutes. Use this guide to decode the 4 digit code on all your tires - https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=11

If they’re older than 6yrs, it might be the tires at fault. But yeah, see what the reputed alignment shop says & post their diagnosis here, before throwing more money at the problem.

Awesome. Thank you for the help, this community is kickass!
