Are STP oil filters good? I’ve been using K&N but looking for a cheaper alternative.

No. They are awful, actually.

Many cheaper options do a much better job.

Go for Wix, NAPA, Purolator, Mobil 1, Fram Xtended Guard, etc.

Didn’t I see Scotty use one in his recent oil change video?

filter construction is poor, and the end caps delaminate too easily.

The is how much 30 micron contamination passed THROUGH a brand new STP filter:

FRAM for comparison:

On my Honda and Toyota I've been using their oem oil filters which I always buy a few whenever the dealer has it on sale. But for other cars I've used Fram oil filters and they're pretty good so I would suggest Fram if not using oem ones.

Even though it's a bit more expensive, I always use OEM filters.

If OEM was not available, I would use Mobil 1 or Purolator.

in some cases, I think the Purolator will be better than OEM. And the Mobil 1 definitely is. They're very good.

Since you vouched for them, I believe it.

I checked my local auto parts store, and I paid $9.99 for the OEM, and the Mobil 1 is $15.99. I'm surprised at the pricing.

STP is an under rated brand. I use their octane and it has the active ingredient of jet fuel.

you mean kerosene?
This guy tested it in an engine, and it just left more deposits, and caused knock.

It depends what kind of gas and oil you use in the first place
STP octane booster contains
Petroleum distillates (JP5 Jet fuel) 008008-20-6 60-90
Tricarbonyl(methylcyclopentadienyl)manganese 012108-13-3 1.0-5.0
Mesitylene (1,3,5-Trimethylbenzene) 000108-67-8 1.0-3.0
Solvent naphtha, petroleum, heavy aromatic 064742-94-5 0.5-1.5
Naphthalene 000091-20-3 0.5-1.5

it depends on your oil? ... right

I use OEM or K&N if I can't find OEM filters for my Fords and my classic Pontiac. Go to Wally World. The auto parts stores charge $9.99+ for Motorcraft oil filters that fit my truck and Mustang. They can be had for $3.98 at Wal-Mart. Oil is also $10+ cheaper. I'd pay at least $56 for full synthetic oil and a filter at the auto parts store, Wally World is maybe $35 at most.
