Hey Scotty,
Can straight piping a car reduce its reliability? A buddy of mine wants to do it on his 2019 Camry V6.
I sort of straight piped my Camaro in college, I put on an electronic exhaust cutout. I wouldn't recommend straight piping it. Its illegal, emissions can be a problem where you are, CEL, and its loud, like untoned obnoxious noise. If you do highway driving, drone can be insane & will give you a headache. Its a 3.5L V6, so it wont have much tone, it'll just be noise. Cops will hear you from a mile away if your racing it & give you a hard time. Exhaust cutouts are actually nice, because you can decide when to be normal and when to be obnoxious, but still not legal. If its his/her daily that they drive early in the morning, dont. (I consider part of straight piping to be removing the cat) They'd be much better off with some type of performance catback/ muffler, that'll sound good and be legal.
As for reliability, doesn't really effect it. Most older cars actually run better without cats, its just more anti-pollution junk. Who knows maybe the reduced back pressure will through some sensor off. Also realizes engines need a little back pressure to run, consider that too.
I doubt it would reduce the reliability. I wouldn't do it all because the emissions these days and depending on where you live can turn into a nightmare.
