Stripped Bolt Hole -- Timing belt tensioner

Heyyy everybody,

I've been taking my time on a timing belt/camshaft seal replacement and I thought I made good progress today until I stripped the hole for the tensioner bolt... I know I'm going to need a right angle drill (need one for my carpentry work anyways) but does anyone have any tips and tricks or products they like for the re-thread? I've looked into fix-a-thread, heli-coil, and some more expensive options.

Oh and fyi it's an '04 Honda Civic LX.

Would really appreciate your input.

Thanks,

Jasper

I've used helicoils for years

Thanks Scotty, just hope I can fit it in that tight space!

Helicoil.

That doesn't mean other makers products are bad, it just means I already have all the helicoil tools and coils, and would not necessarily spend more money just to try another product.

You'll probably find that there isn't enough room to fit the right angle drill with a drill bit in that space but don't be downhearted. Just cut the shank end of the drill bit off to a size where it will fit into that space

Thank you! I was envisioning having to do something like that. I really appreciate the tips.

And the quality of hole is important for the helicoil to work proper...no ovaling.
