Greetings from Baltimore!
I just bought a used 2007 Lexus GS 350. The mileage is 143,900. My mechanic looked at it and suggested that it was in great shape. I had to get some work done to change the front two axles and brakes. The right front passenger axle bearing is immovable. I took it to a Nissan dealership shop near my home and they couldn’t remove the axle either.
I watched a guy use all kinds of tools and techniques to loosen the bearing. He even pulled out a torch and melted my oil sensor trying to release the bearing. The mechanic mentioned that my upper oil pan might have to be replaced in order to remove the axle .
Now my car sounds like a train chugging from the front right passenger wheel.
Is there any hope to fix the vehicle or should I just trade it in for a newer model?
Thanks for your advice !
Spray front bearing circumference with rust loosening. Get 3-4 more different bolts that fit the back side of bearing. Turn in each just slightly. POUND with a "hand sledge" only -after heating front side with propane/ Mapp gas torch. (Not taping like a girl) You can also try a remover tool that has a pull back heavy weight.
Well it doesn't sound like they know what they're doing. Any machine can be taken apart with the correct tools. What I do with those is I take part of that axle off and leave the stub in the transmission. Then I can attach a puller to the stub because it's just a stub and the pullers always get them off
I was at my mechanics house a few years ago, he was trying to remove the axle of a lexus (about the same era as yours) & it was a pain. After doing research he found out he needed special tools to remove it, and he didnt have that at his house (he was semi-retired from being a mechanic, sold his shop & does small side projects out of his garage). So he said this is outside of his paygrade and recommended the guy go to the dealership. So, whyd you take it to a nissan dealer? Lexus dealer, or someone with the right tool can remove it, but you'll probably pay more at a dealer.
