Nissan Sentra 2021 S right side axle

Hey I was just told today that I will need a passenger axle for my Nissan Sentra 2021 S. My question is, would it be hard todo with just basic car tools and how long would it take? I have done plenty of work on my old cars but they were older like 1992 & 2010. I see this car has a lot of technology and I just can not see myself paying $900 for what is needed. The car dealership service manager said I should be ok for a month or so because it’s not leaking. What would you say, do it myself? How long would it possibly take? Should I order the part from advance auto or just get an oem part? Thanks in advance! I really do not want to have to blow out a lot of money in this economy! Hope all is well!

That is an outrageous price to replace an axle assuming it even is bad (the car is not that old). There's a reason they are called "stealerships".

On most cars replacing an axle is not a bad job. However I don't know what it's like on your specific vehicle. You might want to get it checked out by a good independent mechanic. (Avoid dealers for anything other than warranty or recall repairs, and stay away from chains like Pep Boys, Firestone, etc.)

@chucktobias thanks Chuck; I was able to find one which was recommended by my grandfather. The mechanic stated its $150 for labor. Granted I told him, I was purchasing the part myself. So I assume I would need to purchase fluid too (possibly). The dealership said, it wasn’t leaking and that I would be good for at least another month or so. But I assume, it would leak out once he remove the old one or it had already leaked out. So in all the job is going to cost me $340 vs what they said. I plan to throw in a tip. Thanks for the advice Chuck and Merry Christmas!
