Asking for assistance.
I Have had my 1988 Toyota LandCruiser FJ62/manual/354,886 miles for 3 years now with no major issues. Most work done my own, but still learning.
I am at a point where I don't know where to start to troubleshoot.
Turn-over fine. Sputters and stalls at stops, 80% of the time. Have to pull throttle little more upon each restart.
Worst part is, when I turn in reverse, it will sputter and turn off 100% of the time. Don't know if this may be a fuel injection issue or if I have to start looking at a deeper issue.
Recent work completed was transmission flush (10months), New Air filter (9months), Replaced cracked air hose(9months), ATF replaced and filled (8months), Oil change at 354,816 miles (5months), New Distributer, cord set and spark plugs (3months), and all fluids checked and topped off.
Would love to get it back on the road for a longer trip and camping with the family.
Hopefully I catch you before your move!
Any ideas?
Your problem is going to be that vehicle is so old to scan. Tool gets almost no data on it. Now. Anything from a warrant transmission to weak fuel injectors, weak ignition system can do that. If you can find someone with an old snap-on scanner, it will get some data from the system to start analyzing. Nothing compared to a modern 1995 or newer car, but at least you'll get some data to base it on. It could even be a worn out fuel pump which you could pressure test
