Subaru cvt transmission

Hey Scotty, I just purchased a 2021 Subaru Impreza hatchback. I couldn’t find ANY with the manual transmission. Was it a bad idea to go with a cvt?

How long do you expect to keep the car? The lifespan of those CVTs varies quite a bit, but if you take care of it, don't beat it to death, and change the fluid regularly you should be able to get something like 150K miles out of it. (Ignore the lie about the CVT fluid being "lifetime".)

I plan on having this until time ends I hope lol. Not one to beat on any vehicle. Thanks!

Not necessarily, Subaru in my opinion has improved their CVT since they first started putting them in their vehicles. Obviously you don’t want to race the piss out of it or tow with it. Just change the fluid every 60k and see what happens. I believe they also extended their CVT warranty out to 100k mi but I’d check on that to make sure.

Sweet! Was just a little paranoid about the subject. If it says anything, I drive maybe 5k miles a year for work

I think that 100K warranty was for models from several years ago (like around 2010-2015). Subaru has improved their CVT over the years. They're much better than the lousy Jatco CVTs that Nissan uses but not as good as Toyota or Honda. With proper care it should last a while.
