Hey Scotty,

In general between supercharging and turbocharging which of these two places more strain on an engine (than the other) and why?

Definitely the supercharger is worse.

The compressor is driven by the crankshaft, so it's straining the engine. A turbocharger is driven by a hot gas which acts a spring, so there's less wear on the engine.

Superchargers are also parasitic. They take energy directly away from the engines, instead of the exhaust (waste). So they are less efficient.  So to get the same power, you have to load the engine more.

This is why manufacturers use turbos almost exclusively, except maybe where there isn't room for one, or where the lag is undesirable, or just to reduce cost.

If an enough durable engine existed, I'd mount both.

Scotty's opinion (it sounds more like an advertisement)
