I know most of y'all here are into reliable long lasting vehicles, I am, too, and that's why we, like minded people, are in this forum. But something has crossed my mind. If Apple's customers can pay $50 a month to get a new iPhone every year, will car makers do the same thing?
They can just straight up telling buyers, "Yes, we are going to make vehicles that will expire after 3-5 years in term of reliability. But, you can also pay $$$$ a month and you don't have to care about reliability anymore. You'll get a new car every 3-5 years at a low monthly membership premium. It's like a Netflix subscription. And our subscription come in many tiers: sedan, compact, midsize SUV, full side SUV, pickup truck. You will even get family discount!"
will car makers do the same thing?
You can bet it’s coming very soon, to a dealership near you.
After all, vehicle ownership is all about $$$$, at the end of the day..
Some car makers already have done that: Care by Volvo, Access by BMW,...
But you pay up to nose because as @itwt mentioned, at the end of the day, it is all about the money.
Yes, it is coming. At least with newer brands. Subscription service. It’s a more consistent business model for car companies.
