hey Scotty have you seen the new tiny Jeep called the avenger? It’s even smaller than the renegade and it’s based on a Peugeot 2008/Citroen Aircross. It also lacks four wheel drive. What would be your opinion on it?

Oh they're just prostituting the name Jeep as in the Jeep renegade which is a rebagged four-wheel drive Fiat 500.

Yeah, a ton of "Jeep" is now just rebadged FCA platforms. I think the last "real" Jeeps were right after the Chrysler takeover.  Things that were being developed before the takeover took its final form. About a decade after the takeover, Chrysler started putting its engines in Jeeps. And then Daimler took over, and pillaged Chrysler/Jeep to build Mercedes SUV's, and left Chrysler with nothing. Fiat took up the pieces, and now we have rebadged FCA platforms.

I think the last "real" Jeeps were right after the Chrysler takeover.  Things that were being developed before the takeover took its final form.

The 1992 Grand Wagoneer ("ZJ") was actually an AMC design that Chrysler put into production after the buyout. The 1st-generation Wagoneer ("SJ") that was sold through 1991 was an early 1960s Kaiser design. (The early Wagoneer had an overhead-cam inline six cylinder engine and offered a torsion-bar independent front suspension on 4WD models!)

People did complain about cheapening of Jeep products after AMC bought Jeep over 50 years ago. They did do things like put cheap Hornet instruments and interior fittings into Jeep products and to be honest there there was some overall cheapening versus when Kaiser was building them. However, that was nothing compared to the utter garbage that is being churned out these days under the Jeep name.

With Stellantis at the helm maybe it's time to do this and get it over with...

I tend to agree. In comparison to FCA/Stellantis, what AMC did was nothing!

Don’t get me started on the new Dodge Hornet!

Another JINO (Jeep in Name Only) from Stellantis.  Not a surprise, but still disappointing.

FCA

Only that it has nothing to do with Fiat nor Chrysler, other than the badge.

PSA has decided to stop making FCA platforms and cars other than RAM trucks.

This car has been designed long before the merger.

PSA has a very successful small car platform and they produce about a dozen unique car models on it.

The differences between these cars are stylistic, mechanically it's all the same.

Spoiler
Just some of the badged version of this compact car

You can buy it with as a Citroen C3, C4, C4X, Aeolus Yixuan, GS, Peugeot 208, Peugeot 2008, as a DS 3 Crossback, Opel Crosa, Opel Mokka, and some others too.

So far they have been surprisingly reliable, on recent models.

They're also very good to drive (turbocharged engine with a conventional Toyota automatic)

And very well priced, this very fun modern SUV about the same as a base model Corolla.

Oh and it gets 42 US mpg while outperforming a Corolla hybrid 1.8L by 2 seconds in the 0-100.

The EV version is $14,000 less than a base Tesla Model 3 (looking at UK pricing) with more range.

It's a good car, especially for the average new car buyer that won't keep it for over 10 years.

It got the super well deserved 2023 European Car of the Year (as it's a Peugeot built in Poland)

And you're welcome to see how just nice it is.

As someone who has a small SUV and really enjoys it, it's one of those cars that, for me, just hit every point and fulfil every requirement perfectly.

I can see people's points of this Jeep but just so you know, this is not being offered in North America.
