Thoughts on 08 Volvo XC90

Did some research and found the 07-09 XC90's were pretty solid built and did not have transmission/engine issues like the earlier ones. Scotty did a video on an xc70 from a similar year and said that it was pretty reliable i find them with 200 250k miles all the time. Specific engine is 3.2 6 cylinder non-turbo.

I am a very fluid person so what about the 08 09 or so S40? Parts should be easy to find as it is basically a Ford Focus the transmission is an AISIN design and the engine is non-turbo. Thoughts?

Assuming driving less than 8-10k miles a year.

For those who keep up with my posts you can see I really like to jump around the spectrum of used cars 😉

I noticed you give advices on one side and ask for them on another.

Yes because I will take credit that I know A TON about brands like Toyota Honda Kia Subaru Nissan VW etc. but not like Volvo and BMW. You know I also want to learn about those brands from people who have experience.

@g-t bump

Nothing wrong with that. How much experience do you have with those brands you give advices. Did/do you own all these brands?

@g-t
No I am just a student. I did a ton of research and watched Scottys videos looked at complaints etc. My experience is my FAMILY has owned Kia, Nissan, Toyota, Honda. My friends know my interest in cars so they tell me their experiences. So I have a good idea I spend WAAAAY too much time researching cars.

Good balance of experience & research is the key 😉

Is car research related to your study?

No, high school. I am not that kind of high school dude where all he knows about cars is
Ferrari good
Toyota Camry pile of junk
I do research on my free time.

Wise hobby

@g-t
Yes loL. Don't want to be the guy who gets a 2013 Nissan Altima as my first car.

I had been researching cars for more than a year before I decided for Toyota Auris. Now I am researching computers.

Thats nice. This is the age of technology while at home might as well research something useful.

Well, I am doing that for same reason I did for a car. I do not want spend money on something I will find totally useless in 5 years.

If lower mileage the s can be okay but as they get over $100,000 miles they tend to be endless money pets in the United States were Volvo parts are expensive in bowling mechanics charge a lot

I thought you said that you have no trouble finding parts in your review of the XC70?

I assume he is talking about S40 you are asking about.

@g-t
I see. I thought he was talking about the xc90. Doesn't the S40 share %60 of its part with Ford?

I was also looking at XC90's but was put off by likely bad gas mileage while using premium.  Heavy vehicle chews up breaks and tires.  I am not convinced the 3.2 litre is a good motor.  You see many high mileage older Volvo, not a lot of XC90's.  But the vehicle is still worthy of consideration, vs say a Durango.

I see many volvo xc90s for sale but non with higher miles. On the other hand, I see many XC70s with 200 250k miles.
