Hi Scotty have a quick question. Have an opportunity to purchase a 2004 Porsche Cayenne · S Sport Utility for a fair price in very good condition. What are your thoughts on reliability overall for this suv, appreciate your thoughts.

Unless you like setting your money on fire, pass.

Many of those old Cayenne's are affordable now, and buyers who normally wouldn't purchase a Porsche are making the jump at their own peril. When they come in and need $5k worth of maintenance, they simply can't swing it.

Porsche's are expensive to keep on the road. The older they are, the more expensive they are to maintain. Unless you are looking for a bragging rights weekend toy, I wouldn't even consider the purchase.

An 18 year old porsche is not a good idea in general. Its very likely to become an "endless money pit" if it isnt already, they just dont hold up over time and it can cost a fortune to keep it on the road. That's all general information, it does somewhat depend on the mileage, if it was taken care of and how it was maintained. What is this "fair" price?

Bad mistake unless you've won the lottery.

Personally, I don’t consider the Porsche SUV an actual Porsche. They are variants of other VW vehicles, with a Porsche looking body.

With that said, I do like the way they look. But, they will cost an arm and a leg to maintain.

How much is this opportunity?

My only question would be can you afford the yearly maintenance and repairs that will be required?

A porsche SUV is basically the price of a porsche without the fun handling of a porsche.

Pass on it.  You do not want to own any German vehicle without an OEM-backed warranty.

German cars are made to be leased, not bought.  They themselves understand the vast majority of their customers lease and design their vehicles accordingly;  they only need to last through the warranty period, after that all bets are off (especially the electronics).

Run away from it. It's very old and it's repairs are expensive so unless you have too much money and don't know how else to spend it then definitely avoid it.

Fine weekend toy if you don't pay much, but overall a very big endless money pit and daily driving one is gonna cost you a fortune since they are tremendous gas hogs and they are super expensive to maintain and repair.

If you really want an alternative RWD-based Sporty Luxury SUV that won't be a giant money pit, buy yourself an Infiniti FX SUV (I would recommend the standard V6).
