Tire temperature concerns

4 tires - All manufactured within the same week.  All set to the same cold air pressure within a tenth of a pound after sitting overnight. Very different temperatures between the two FWD tires after a half hour of driving at freeway speeds...

Degrees/Fahrenheit:

Tire temperature #1 82.4

Tire temperature #2 82.4

Tire temperature #3 89.6

Tire temperature #4 93.2

What concerns me is not as much a tire issue but maybe a bad bearing, suspension or drivetrain component. I asked for the locations of the assigned tire numbers too, no response yet.

It is a 2018 Toyota Rav4 LE (made in Japan). TCUV - A certified pre-owned. It is in the shop for a thorough cleaning, detail and replacement of some things that weren't reconditioned, but should have been, to be Toyota Certified. Tires appear to have been aligned and were brand new when the car was bought 2,311.0 miles ago.

If #3 & #4 are the front tires they are carrying the weight of the engine and transmission as well as doing the steering so the friction is greater creating more heat. That alone doesn't indicate a drivetrain problem. Often the first signs of trouble are pulling to one side or vibrations.

What you’re describing is completely normal.

As said earlier, your rear tires are heated identically. Whereas, your front tires are subject to the heat from the engine & exhaust.

Is your exhaust manifold nearer to the #4 tire?

The data you presented concurs with the tire temperature data, from the TPMS in my vehicle.

The exhaust is centered.

The 5% temperature variation is only on this car. Not on our other two Rav4s (another 2018 and a 2015). Those variations are less than a full degree in F (so about a 1% variation)

Scotty Kilmer, where are you???
