Tourqe converter clutch solenoid stuck off code

I have a 2005 Pontiac vibe with front wheel drive automatic transmission. I bought the car almost 2 years ago with 136,000 miles and now it has 168,000 miles.I love the car and never want to get rid of it. It's running a torque converter clutch solenoid stuck off code. The car shifts like a dream, the auto zone print out says to change the transmission filter, do you think that will get rid of the problem? Also do you think the used car lot knew about the problem because the trans fluid was obviously changed when I bought the car, it has a dipstick. Any advice would be appreciated, I started working at a dealership 5 months ago so I have access to all the tools I need but as of now I just change oil and do basic repairs until I get a higher education school so I lack a lot of knowledge.

What is the code? They typically have several different potential causes.

Check possible causes for the code.

Do you really think they knew this problem would develop 2 years and 32,000 miles down the road?

Transmission maintenance is a good thing as long as it is not delayed so long that it causes problems.

@chucktobias the code is P0741, also the check engine light has been on since I got the car, the first day I had it I scanned it and it just needed a gas cap but I've been broke as a joke so I held off, I rescanned the car last year to check up on it and that's when I saw the new code. I cleared all the codes when I got the new gas cap the P0741 code reappeard a week after. I dont think the filter was ever changed because the bolts on the transmission pan are super rusty and if I were to take them off I'd need to replace them (which I will do)

Find a knowledgeable mechanic who specializes in transmissions for this kind of thing. That Vibe will be 20 years old, next year. 20 years is a long time. The transmission could have been abused, etc. It could be a clogged transmission filter, but, if you say it was just changed, the mechanics should have replaced the filter while try were servicing it.

Probably. They don't mockingly call them stealerships for nothing. Now you know to not trust used car salesmen. Always have a mechanic check it out, first.
