Hi Scotty.
I just ordered a brand new Toyota Hilux 2021 automatic 2,8L diesel.
My questions is: Is the Toyota Hilux still as good as they were before? and did i do a mistake buying a diesel powered engine in 2021? I am a contractor and live in a village north i Norway, so i though this was a good ide. I just want a car that will last a long time and don't break down.
Love your channel keep it up.
Thanks
Patrick
Here the Tacoma quality is decent enough the Hilux I'm not sure about but it has a good reputation I don't think it will be a clunker or anything like that.
This is the engine in concern: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_GD_engine#1GD-FTV
Hy!
That engine came out in 2015, so it is relatively new and yet needs to be proven. I suggest you monitor oil level and condition of DPF.
Good luck!
I don't think they sell the Hilux in USA/Canada. You may want to ask in a Euro forum.
You would hope that Toyota tries to preserve the Hilux reputation.
You have Tacoma
N.A. ones were always kind of different. I don't think America ever got the solid front axle Hilux.
Even the new ones are different:
Tacoma
3.5-liter V6; 278 hp, 265 lb-ft of torque
Hilux
2.8-liter turbodiesel inline-four; 177 hp, 330 lb-ft of torque

Yeah, even the name was different while sold in U.S. What was their reputation back then?
@g-t
Though I have no experience I can answer this. It was the Toyota Pickup, extremly reliable bulletproof. Probably the most reliable vehicle ever made. Scotty agree as well. Top Gear (UK) also tested it out and they couldn't destroy it.
I think they're considered indestructible trucks. A couple friends of mine use them for off-roading. Incredibly tough things. However, they swapped the small diesel for a Chevy Vortec 4.3 engine. They call them "Toylets". One guy added a second low range gearbox, making the overall gear ration something like 100:1. The thing climbs 70 degree inclines in idle.
Interesting. Then it moves very slowly. Good alternative if you don't have a tractor 😀
yes slow speed but oodles of torque. But when you get to the highway you put it back into high range and drive it like a normal car.
Hilux, LC76, diesels, they are forbidden fruits for people who live in North America
