Which Toyota engine last longer between inline 4 cylinder and V6 when all other things are considered equal and why? Thank you!
Are you new to the forum?
The 4 cyliners last just a little bit longer, but need way less maintenance. That being said though, their v6's kick butt in reliability and are some of the best 6 cylinders in the world. Toyota knows what they're doing when they make their 6 cylinders. The 6 cylinder engine is the perfect mix of power, decent fuel economy, and smootheness, which is why people buy 6 cylinders in luxury cars theses days instead of v8's.
Inline 4's are less complex, so they have an edge there in terms of potential longevity. But it's a Toyota V6 you are comparing it to, so that is pretty damn hard.
With that said, I am biased towards inline engines, be it an inline 4 or an inline 6. Toyota built the best inline 6, but they don't make them anymore.
Case by case...
Simple answer, but exactly right. And depends a lot on the application. Like Tacoma. A taco with a V6 might have more miles towing and hauling than a 4 cylinder grocery getter (get the 4). But a 4 that did as much work in its life as the 6 might be in trouble (get the 6).
They're both very good an reliable Toyota engines. So it depends what you're needing out of either, and what vehicle they'd be going in. It's a very open ended question.

Toyota’s 4 cylinders typically last longer than the Toyota V6’s but the difference isn’t much. You’ll either get 350k miles out of a Toyota V6 or 370k miles out of a Toyota inline 4 cylinder. But you’ll save money on gas if you get a 4 cylinder. Gas mileage and sticker price were the main reasons I chose a 4 cylinder Camry over a V6. The reliability difference didn’t matter to me because I don’t plan on keeping the car for more than 10 years anyway.
