- Hi Scotty!
- I live in UK and I just bought Toyota RAV4 2.0 D-4D 2017, manual gearbox, 2-wheel drive, mileage 29 000. It has a BMW diesel engine. Should I expect problems with that engine, the same way as it happens in used BMW cars?
- Thanks!
@yatzek
Bro scotty always he say if you got enough money to spend go for BMW, since the engine in Toyota you may save some money.
BMW diesel engines are actually very reliable. They haven't had any major issues. And to be honest, BMW has been stepping up their game producing some great reliable engines since 2017. Why else would Toyota opt in to put a BMW engine in their car? Sure they had timing chain problems back in the N20/N26 engine (2011-2016), but they addressed it. I don't know why people think BMWs burn oil like crazy. They don't, and it's actually normal for engines to consume very little amounts of oil. There is no perfect engine out there that keeps every drop of oil in the engine for the next oil change.
Your engine will be just fine as long as you take care of it with regular maintenance...just as with any engine.
Wow, a whole different world.
@mink
Most definitely.
Hy!
Toyota replaced its own 2.0 diesel engines with BMW ones. Be leery about timing chain and oil consumption issues.
Good luck!
what ... they put bmw engines in Rav4s???
@mountainmanjoe
Yes, and in some other models too.
