Hey Scotty huge fan of your work, my sister’s heading off to college and she’s always liked quirky cars. Thinking of buying a 2002 Toyota solara SE V6 CONVERTIBLE with 140 000 MILES for $5000 Canadian as a gift from a private seller. It has a very clean interior and exterior with no dashboard lights. Is it a practical car for her and is it worth the price?

The cloth tops usually go bad overtime and that car is 20 year old. The other thing is that in the highway, they tend to make lots of noise. About the engine, they have rubber timing belt and that engine tends to form sludge if the oil has not been changed regularly. Also, the V6 engines at that era, have a tendency to leak too. So check for those as well. IMO, $5000 is a lot for that car, considering the age and also the fact that it is discontinued.
