Hello everyone,
I was told that I need to replace the TPMS sensor on one of the tiers for my 2009 Honda CRV, and I noticed the sensor runs from $14 -$60, my questions is , is it advisable to use any brand of sensor? Would it be bad to use the cheapest?
Use OEM if you can afford it.
Thanks, but that is given. I would like to know the disadvantages of using the after market, it is just tire pressure sensor
The disadvantages of after market systems is that sometimes, they don't work, or when you program them into your system, they don't get recognized.
If you don’t feel like spending the money on a sensor. Just get a gage and measure it every here and there. No point in replacing one when the other ones might go bad soon.
The batteries in TPMS sensors are good for about 10 years. Yours are 13 years old. So, while 1 is bad right now, the other 3 are likely not too far behind going out. The cheaper options usually don't work well with Hondas and Toyotas, so it's best to buy OEM sensors for your tires. You can get OEM sensors without paying dealer prices. I got OEM Denso's for my Lexus from Amazon for almost half the cost ($45 vs 75). Do research on what brand are OEM Honda sensors for your car and see if can be bought elsewhere. You can also do what a lot of people do, is get a good tire pressure gauge and check your pressures yourself regularly and ignore the light.
