Hi Scotty I have a 2012 Hyundai sonata with roughly 120,000 miles I frequently maintained a vehicle and I recently had a transmission fluid change on it I have had no issues with it until about a week ago the problem I’m having is that the brakes are engaging while driving and pushing on the gas pedal I either have to manually break or let off the gas for the car to catch itself so I can maintain the same speed or go faster I have also noticed that while driving my brake lights will flicker or consistently stay on in your experience what do you think is causing this problem?
the brakes are engaging while driving and pushing on the gas pedal I either have to manually break or let off the gas for the car to catch itself so I can maintain the same speed or go faster
this is an extremely confusing sentence.
What do you mean "manually brake" and "catching itself"?
I don't think your brakes are engaging at all. I think your transmission is slipping. Hyundai transmissions are junk (I know people who have gone through several of them). But maybe whoever worked on yours screwed something up.
That’s a 6 speed, and by 2012 it was already quite good.
When these go out they can shift in a way that feels like the car brakes for about ~3 seconds and then slightly jerks forwards - but that’s just people not performing the required maintenance and having everything clogged with friction material causing uneven and slow engagements, not slipping.
If it started doing this post the ATF change, then I agree with @mmj that it’s your tranny going out.
It’s typical on a Hyundai product with >100,000 miles.
my brake lights will flicker or consistently stay on
That's the brake switch - it can cause the car to behave strangely, it has caused my Volvo to shudder.
Usually these cost like ~$15, so I'd replace it first before doing anything else.
That's not possible, it's probably something that feels like something is dragging you back.
Find a safe place to test it, and drive in M shifting yourself - monitor shift quality.
I really doubt that the brakes are engaging by themselves without you touching it - that would be rare.
