Hi,
I have a 2013 Mazda CX-5 with about 105k miles. It runs perfectly fine except for some lower control arm bushings I need to replace. Since I now have a one year old and space isn’t too great in the Mazda, I want to upgrade in size and have a little bit more capability for future road trips. There’s a 2005 suburban Z71 4wd with 119k miles for about $7000 in my area. Should I trade my Mazda in for that? Would I be upgrading in reliability and dependability with that swap?
I agree with Bruce here. OK, but chonky guzzler. 300k is pushing it, especially if you don't know the history. "Trouble free" is virtually impossible at that mileage. I could see needing a transmission (which isn't outrageously expensive)
Sounds like I should stick with the Mazda and just make it work. Thanks 👍
Love them suburbans, but they are really chonky. Will suck up gas like no tomorrow as well. If you are well okay with that trade off for the space and towing capacity and less technology, be sure to get it checked out by a mechanic beforehand. If the guy has paper work dating work done to the car, even better. You could also probably talk price down for whatever you don't like considering the market in this day and age. All prices be more inflated then they ought to be.
@bruceree thanks for the answer. I forgot to mention that it’s a dealer sale. Do you think the Suburban has a better chance of giving me another 200k miles relatively trouble free?
I think the same year sequoia would be a more dependable bet but will still get terrible mpg. It will 100% outlast the suburban if the timing belt and the water pump on the sequoia were changed every 100k.
I wish, but toyota tax in my area has even 4runners at double the price with 50-100k more miles, let alone a sequoia. It’s crazy
I know how you feel, trust me, and even the lil' lexus is250 i want as a first car is throguh the roof. I guess the 07 tahoe's are pretty reliable so look into those. If even those are too much, look at common problems for the model years throught edmudns consumer reviews or youtube reviews on the tahoe as I am not that familiar with chevrolet myself and am just 16 years old (almost).
btw in my area sequoias are usually less than or equal to 4runner pricing.
