Focus DCT is slipping

Mr. Kilmer

I bought a 2015 Ford Focus in 2016. I noticed that the car jerked sometimes in the lower gears. I learned through your channel that the focus has an issue with the double clutch transmission and that Ford has a recall. I took it to the Ford Dealership and they reprogrammed the computer. That seemed to fix the jerking in lower gears.  However, sometimes when I go down a hill it seems like the transmission is slipping into neutral.  I can give it gas and eventually it will slip back into the right gear but for a short time it revs without power going to the wheels.  This doesn't happen often but it makes me nervous because it makes me think the transmission is on it's way out. The car has 102,000 miles.  I owe about 3,200 dollars on it. The recall buy back is only a max of about 2500 bucks if I remember correctly.  Do you think changing the transmission fluid might help or is it better to put stop slip in it and pray that fixes it?  I did loose power altogether once and I thought it was the transmission. Thankfully, it turned out to be the throttle body.  The dealer was the only ones that could get it programmed and running again.  If you can steer me in the right direction to help me cut my losses I would appreciate it. Hope you have a nice day.

I'm afraid those dual-clutch transmissions are inherently defective, a bad design and Ford knew it was bad when it was designed and sold. They cannot be fixed to operate reliably. That's why there was a class action lawsuit and a buy-back settlement.

Probably the best thing you can do is baby the thing, do scheduled maintenance, and pray that it doesn't die on you in a bad place like the middle of a busy intersection or trying to get out of the way of a tractor trailer.

There's no polite way to put it, Ford screwed their customers and knew they were doing it at the time.
