So I own a 1997 Dodge dakota 318 5 speed standard transmission. 3 months ago I installed a lightbar. 2 months later my truck died so I thought I was a lightbar so I just connected it and let the altinator charge the battery it worked. The two weeks later it died again. Then i learned about popping the clutch. Two days ago I was driving and.i forgot something at my house so i turned around and it died on me while driving so i popped the clutch it roared back to life for two feet then died so i tried jumping it i finnally got it started then but i had to keep it above 1000 rpms until the engine heated up to 200 or it would die. So whats going on and can i fix it or do i got to take it to a mechanic. Also whats your opinion on dodge dakotas

he didn't say multimeter test. He said load test. Autozone does them for free.

I'm not a Dodge fan but have your battery and alternator load tested it could be as simple as a bad battery and or a bad alternator

Hey Scotty, I recently asked you about my 1997 dodge dakota battery draining constantly. You told me to run a multimeter test on my altinator and battery well I did and my results were. The altinator read -3. Then I tested the battery it read 12.54 when off. 14.6 when on. And 13.86 with the truck running lights radio and fog lights all on.
