Can a turbocharger be disabled or bypassed

Technically you may be able to if it's electronically controlled (you can reprogram the wastegate to stay open to minimize or eliminate turbo spool), but the engine will run terribly. Perhaps the engine could be "de-tuned" for that, but I have no idea if anyone has tried this before. Check out my article on turbocharged engines in my signature, and you'll see why it may not be feasible. Are you just curious, or are you considering this?

Technically, yes, turbo chargers can be disabled, bypassed, or even removed. Depending on the model, some may be easier to do than other.

BUT, that doesn't mean you should do it.

I would not recommend it, unless you really know what you are doing.

I would be hesitant to remove it on cars that were actually designed with turbo's built in.  Then again, I don't know what I am doing.

If the car was engineered to use a turbo, it may be more trouble than it's worth to remove it.

Theoretically, yes.

Finacially, maybe.

Actually, why?
