So for the 1st time I going to change oil with the Car (2004 corolla) going up a 21cm ramp.. I'm going to chock the back wheels.

Is there anything there to look out for  as this is my 1st time doing it...

89,000km corolla. I will park the wheels and put it in 1st gear??????

I will park the wheels and put it in 1st gear??????

only if it's a manual transmission.

'Park' is what parks an automatic. (It's explained in the owners manual if you don't know how to use one)

Other than that, they're just ramps, nothing crazy.  I'm sure they came with instructions, but you make sure your tires are centred on them so they don't tip over. Obviously put them on a flat surface. Try not to drive off the end of them. Nice and slow... you're not trying to launch the car. Keep one foot on the brake and the other on the accelerator and go until your hit the stop. That's it, pretty straightforward. One of the earliest man made inventions along with the wheel.

When using ramps, which I do, keep in mind the slant will tilt the fluid in your oil pan and show the wrong level on your dip stick.  After draining the old oil and replacing the filter, add new oil to the engine until it shows about a quart low on the dip stick.  Start the engine, new oil will enter the new filter, check for leaks, then drive the car off the ramps, park it on a level surface.  Turn off the engine re-check the dipstick and add fluid until it reaches the full line.  Your parking brake should keep the car from moving while it's on ramps.  If not, you should get it adjusted.

amazing

Would I be able to drain the engine OIL straight after I drive it up the ramp OR should I wait for the oil to cool down?

Best to drain it when hot. The oil will flow better and contaminants will drain out with it.

. I finger tight as the oil filter in.

there should be instructions on the filter.

After the filter touches, you give another 3/4 turn.

wipe down the filter ,  oil pan drain area, and any other accumulations of oil on surrounding parts.

Check your work:

after you're done, start the car and slightly rev it up to about 2,000 rpm to bring up the oil pressure.

Then get down underneath and inspect the filter and drain plug. Make sure there are no leaks or seepage.

put 3.7LITRES of engine oil in...

these specified quantities are always a rough estimate.

ALWAYS check the dipstick on a level surface.

I check the dipstick without wipping it first and it on point or nearish to the full. Do I drop another 400ML of oil in? or wipe dipstick and check again..?

You always need to wipe the dipstick down to get an accurate reading. You may need to do it more than once if oil is sticking up in the dipstick tube. Go by the dipstick reading rather than trying to accurately measure the amount of oil you put in. Too much oil can blow out engine seals.

nearish to the full. Do I drop another 400ML

dipsticks always have a safe range. either a high and low mark, or holes, or a hatched area. As long as the oil level stays inside this range, you are fine.

I'll be using a ramp for the first time tomorrow. Any tips for safety?

some tips I know.

Chock the back wheels.

Questions: how fast should one drive up the ramp?

if you're nervous, then practice it outside somewhere away from cars and buildings.
