Vapor lock

Topic starter

I am having problems with my truck when I drive it for a while it vapor locks and makes it hard to go anywhere. The fuel is getting hot inside the gas lines and I don't know how to stop it I can wait for it to cool down but I don't want it to happen again.

It is a 1 barrel carburetor and the engine is a 235 straight 6 chevy.

How can I solve this?

Are you sure you're dealing with a vapor lock/fuel starvation issue?

The reason I ask is because (I assume) your fuel lines have been routed the same way for the past 60 years.

Why would vapor lock suddenly start happening?

Next time it won't start when hot spray some starting fluid into the carb and see if it starts to confirm a fuel starvation problem

It's more likely that you have a failing ignition coil that's acting up when it gets hot and then working again when it cools off.

When it happens the fuel filter becomes completely empty. I have an online fuel filter. I have replaced all ignition items like the coil points wires plugs.

Fuel pump may be getting weak. You could always try this old trick, metal clamps would be even better to help dissipate heat:
