- I have a1973 Dodge Hallgtc camper van and the original wire from the alternator was too old to handle the load so I was getting over voltage, I replace the alternator twice, voltage regulator twice and put a new alternator wire, when the engine is on its normally charging the motor and the two house batteries, now it’s not charging the house batteries and the voltage to the engine battery is still going to 15.0 volts, it’s tied into another component, it’s a canister looking unit and there is one in the engine bay and another in the generator bay, even when the generator is on the voltage is jumping up and down and it normally goes to14.6 when full, but now it only reads 13.9 even though the batteries are fully charged via generator, I was told it’s a starter cylinoid, but the mechanic wasn’t sure even though it was an RV mechanic. Can someone help ?
this will be difficult to troubleshoot without a wiring diagram, and photos of what you have, but some of those old alternators had a sense terminal, and it's important where you hook that up.
Is there a way I can post photos to you ?
So you’d have a better idea of what it is.

Sorry I opened an account at imgbb.com,
But how do I post so you can see the images ?
I’m not super tech savvy 🤦♂️

Okay I see, it’s raining really hard at the moment, I’m sitting in a Fred Myers parking lot in Oregon I don’t really want to drive until I have a better idea of what’s going on, as soon as the rain lets up I try to follow your directions, thanks
