Hi all,
I have a 2006 Nissan Murano w/ 160k miles. About a week ago, I threw in some Techron fuel system cleaner and a fresh tank of gas to my car. Almost immediately after it started to whine and smoke pretty bad. The smoking has subsided a bit, but the whining has persisted.
I also want to note I took about an hour drive with the car previous to filling it up. The coolant is full and oil is 3/4 full. Does anyone know what may be going on?
here is a YouTube link of what it sounds and looks like: https://youtube.com/shorts/tGMPkI4FY-k
The smoke might be from a degrading valve cover gasket, at that mileage, if it's never been replaced.
The sounds? That might also be a valve issue. Try changing the oil and make sure that you don't run it low (as is the case now, from what you're telling us). If the vehicle is down a quart or more, that's not going to help the engine run well.
I don't think the Techron is the cause of the problem, although it might have revealed the problem. Correlation doesn't always equal causation.
Sound like you ran the Power Steering pump dry and the leak is dripping on something hot like the exhaust.
