Scotty,

My wife and I are in our 60's and will be purchasing what will probably be our last new vehicle. I currently have a 2003 Honda Accord with 230,000 miles...best car I've EVER had!! We're looking at the new for 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid. Your opinions? Thanks!!

Well it is a hybrid and Honda is not that great at making them but the thing is if you will probably not need it after 100k miles, it could be a very reliable car. After that it is a big gamle.

I think the new CRV hybrid is compelling because it is practically and electric car. It’s not like your ordinary hybrid where the ICE and the electric motor share duties more or less, regardless of speed.

Up until about 45 mph, the CRV uses the electric motor. It is impossible to use the ICE, as the ICE generates the electricity. Above 45, a clutch engages the the ICE, because it is more efficient at that point.

I love Honda’s.  I have a 99 Accord myself. And it’s been great to me 270K. Miles so far. Might be on its last leg. We will see

I am probably one of the few here who don’t mind hybrids. Yet owning a 2003 Prius, I understand the fear behind it, and also the benefit. I actually see hybrids as less complex since there is no starter or alternator.  It’s all built into the electric motor(s).

Knowing Honda, I would have the hybrid CRV on my list.

Note if you don't know: ICE stands for Internal Combustion Engine
