Hello everyone,

i am ready to get the ac compressor on my car replaced because of the annoying noise it’s making even tho the ac works perfect, I got a brand new Denso ac compressor with clutch and I have two certified mechanics at two different locations with different quotes to fix my cat , but one of them ask high price and his reason is that he need to replace the condenser and ac lines to have a piece of mind.

this is a 2007 Honda, Do you think this mechanic is making sense ? I thought you change condenser if it has a leak or been damaged from an accident.

please let know your opinion

It depends on whether your old compressor was in such bad condition that it contaminated your AC system with metal debris. When that happens pretty much the entire AC system needs to be replaced.

Is there a way to detect if that “ metal contamination “ happened?

You can attempt to examine for it when taking the system apart, but if any escapes your attention it can quickly travel with refrigerant and destroy the new compressor. Since your old compressor didn't actually seize up but was only making noise it may be OK. The more expensive mechanic is erring on the side of caution.
