Scotty, What is your opinion between the Honda CR-V or the Toyota RAV4? It would mostly be a commuter car with Occasional long trip. I do go to the mountains a few times in the winter to go skiing. Do I need a highbred? Do I need all wheel drive?
thanks for your time
Allan
Clarification: Which model years are you looking at?
Since you haven't indicated whether you are considering new or used I'm going to assume new/current models. I would suggest the gasoline only Rav4 for longitivtiy and reliability. The cr-v is a good car too, but the reason I am suggesting Rav4 is because the cr-v has a turbocharged engine and the long term reliability isn't completely known yet. And gasoline only for if you plan on keeping the car for a long time.
As for hybrid or not it really depends on how much you drive and if you do drive enough to justify the extra cost of a hybrid. It also depends on your states taxing system; in my state they charge more for yearly tabs when it comes to hybrid or electric vehicles to cover the lesser gas tax they pay. So you have to calculate the numbers and see if it is worth it or not.
Do I need a highbred?
I wouldn't recommend a Hybrid, they're usually not wroth the extra.
Do I need all wheel drive?
Most people don't.
The RAV4 seems to be more reliable, they have significantly better transmissions.
Naturally Aspirated CRV or Naturally Aspirated RAV4. Try them both and see what you like.
A CRV feels more premium and better thought out in terms of layout. The RAV4 seems a little more fun to drive.
