Why are used cars in america so expensive? I live in Ottawa, Canada and you can find 2010 Honda CRV with 65k mile no accident going for 8200$ USD
but then I look at marketplace out of curiosity and the same car but 2008 its going for 6000$ with 153k miles lol. (2.5x more mileage)

@jebrim
I imagine public transportation there is great, unlike here. So fewer people need and use cars, just like in Europe, Asia, etc. I lived overseas for a while and never owned a car!
2 words: snow belt.
Canadian winters are harder on cars
or maybe because gas is too expensive so people want to get rid of their cars
@mountainmanjoe
true but my dad 1995 accord lasted till like 2016 until frame started to rot
@mountainmanjoe
gas is about 95 cent to 1 dollar per liter atm pre-covid it was 1.30$
well Texans are paying only 60 cents a litre. British Columbians are paying $1.30. More than double.
@mountainmanjoe
yeah hella unfair lol
well Trudeau has to embezzle money to his family somehow!
@mountainmanjoe
i know eh hate that guy worst prime minister so far
I agree. Worst ever and Chretien is hard to beat.
If I had to take a guess, part of it has to deal with people not getting as much money in america so they rather sell it a bit high and let it take time. Another possible thing is alot more americans drive crossovers, suvs, trucks, and muscle cars then they do sedans and normal cars, and it's just naturally more expensive. Autotrader I think also is more accessible than facebook marketplace and I'm sure they make money somewhere, and finally, if insurance or gas costs more, generally it's harder to sell a vehicle, it's easier in the states because most people lives far from work.
Don't things in Canada cost more than in U.S.? There seems to be an exemption.
What are tax rates of cars in Canada? In America it seem when finding a "inexpensive place to live" the cost of living balances out for total costs. For instance costs in Florida are thought to be low, compared to other states, but when all the extra fees and taxes are added the cheap living is no better than other states. Like taxes being cheap but tags are higher.
What I can't figure out is why every migrant in the world has a cellphone stuck up their ear and all I can afford is a old flip-phone on Consumer Cellular. But those toyota pickup trucks the use like military vehicles keep on trucking. They are beat all to hell but still carry a dozen men and heavy fire power. If that doesn't make a good toyota commercial I don't know what does. ..... On the other hand the vehicles used for home made bombs are mommie vans of any brand.
I actually don't believe this is the case generally. You can't just pick two listings as evidence. Show us some nation wide statistics.
