Why does my car struggle to shift gears up hill?

I own a 2009 Ford Fusion SEL V6 Automatic Transmission with 175,000 miles on it. The car struggle to shift gears when going up hill. Not only that when going on a flat road the rpm is too high to shift to next gear. To the point I have to get around 2200 rpm to have it shift to next gear. To drop the rpm down. What can I do to resolve this problem??

Example

1650rpm - 55mpg that's good when is on the correct gear. I don't know what gear is on.

2200rpm - 55mpg that's not good suck on a lower gear or something

Going up hill

2700rpm to get!! 25MPG!!! also hear a noise somewhere and would not shift.

Thank You

Not to be that guy, but it sounds like your transmission is on the way out.

When you are on an incline, what seems to be happening is it is experiencing slip while trying to shift due to the extra stress put on it by the hill. The fact that you also could hear a noise and it would not shift tells me you likely have an internal transmission problem.

That's great. Where can I buy a remanufactured transmission or rebuild transmission??

Which would you recommend for a long term transmission use??

that's going to be about $5,000 +
Doesn't really make sense for an 11 yr old Fusion

Agreed. Honestly I would try to trade out of it and move on to something else.

🥺The biggest mistake I never made of my life. Still financing on vehicle $8k remaining. Going to get a new AWF21 transmission remanufactured I have no choice.
Thank You all.

Hey I understand. We have all been there. Hope you get a good unit and have no more troubles out of it.

Man still financing a 12 year old Fusion and have 8k left which is twice the value of the car? I feel bad for you. The sad thing is that the unit is an Aisin product (subsidiary of Toyota) and they have had nothing but problems in the Fords;( Good luck and as soon as you are done with the payments and all that I would just move on to something more reliable.

That is a common issue with those cars the auto transmissions are weak check this out:

After looking at the links. I realized that the pre-owner was more than lucky. 160k on engine and transmission that's are still original wow 😯 and now 175,674 with me.

I found out that transmission and labor going to cost me around $3k.

Thank You for information.

Update, I think the engine head gasket is leaking a tiny black color on the side of the engine and I smell the a vapor just small amount. Could it be a engine head gasket replacement is required???
