Watch you everyday on “AutoNews”, do you work for Toyota? WOW, your daily briefing is definitely biased towards Toyota. I can only guess that keeping a car for years is way more important to you than the advent of new cars featuring huge safety features, tha are mostly standard equipment.
No Scotty does not work for Toyota. He has stated many times in his videos that that his perspective is that of a mechanic who has worked on most brands and has found that Toyotas have fewer serious problems and last longer than most others. (Though the company has also had its share of turkeys.)
Yes, for many of us keeping a reliable car for years is way more important than having the latest flashy, expensive gadgetry that will cost a fortune to repair when the car is out of warranty. (I keep cars for a long time, wringing the last bit of value out of them until they are completely unserviceable with the next owner being the junkyard.)
If you don't believe Scotty, you can do a research on your own

do you work for Toyota?
No, Scotty does not.
biased towards Toyota
I work on my own cars and I used to think Toyota was over-rated, until I've owned a Corolla.
There's no way to describe how mechanically solid that thing was.
It's not every Toyota, there are lots of crap models with really bad design - but most are pretty good.
And still, to a person who does not understand cars and won't work on his car, I'd only recommend a Toyota, Honda or Mazda - even if they're not my preference and I buy a different kind of cars.
keeping a car for years is way more important to you than (...) safety features
Toyotas have all of the safety features you'd want, Toyota safety sense 3.0 is pretty good - might be unrivaled.
I do not think there's a safety feature Toyotas don't have.
the advent of new cars
What do you mean? Toyota makes new cars.
huge safety features
I've never thought to myself "gee I really could have used more gadgets and safety features"
Most often I'm thinking "Boy I wish that was made better", or "I wish I didn't have to replace that already"
New doesn’t necessarily mean reliable and/or cheap to maintain.
A 10 year old Toyota that is properly maintained will probably last longer and cheaper to maintain over the next 10 years, than most newer cars today.
Toyota isn’t perfect. But their cars are far more reliable than competitors, IMHO.
My mom has a toyota tacoma 2003 prerunner and it lasted 350k miles!!! Now that is a very long time... she just bought a new motor and slap it in. Nothing ever broke ac still works perfectly fine. She always did her daily maintence new oil and filter. A friend gave me a free infinity 2003 fx35 and it has a blown head gasket at 210k mileage!!! I have called around for a new motor and labor just to put the motor in my car and it cost me 6,780 just to put the motor in !!! It was a quote for me i told him omg that cost more than the car is worth lol. So i figure sheesh i think im tossing that thing into the junk. Owning a luxury car can clean out your wallet. But if you have the funds why not??? You only live once. Just be prepare for the cost.
Falling for the gimmicky marketing of "safety features", when in reality it's just a bunch of electronic gadgets that the majority of drivers won't use, and sometimes cause more harm than benefits. The best safety feature is an alert driver that doesn't rush everywhere like it's an F1 race.
The reality is that most people buy a car because they need one, rather than having a toy to drive around for others to see. These people can't afford to get a new car every 5 years or so, even if they sell the old one, especially when you consider the huge price increases of the last few years.
If you can afford to get a new shiny ride and don't mind wasting time going to the dealership for "warranty" work, or getting a lawyer to fight the manufacturer because of a very sour lemon, then by all means get whatever you feel like.
