Whys my lexus so loud?

Topic starter

I have a lexus is 250 2010 AWD, about 2000000 kmh, and has automatic transmission. I bought the vehicle used for 8600 CAD after tax. The car stated being louder after a month of driving; for example, see link

I have changed the oil my self with full synthetic oil. Also, the audio system seem to not work at all at random times why is this? I have researched and a whole community (lexus forum) says they have the same issue and no mechanic can fix it no matter whats changed amps etc.. it goes in weeks after a fix and starts randomly working and not working again.

Scotty's right. The video link is no good. Many things can make a car loud. Bad tires, worn wheel bearings, a leak in the exhaust system, etc. It's impossible to know without any data.

The audio system problems are an electrical issues. The acceleration issue (the buzzing, whirring)? That's something different.

I found this on a Lexus site. Take it for what it might be, given that these posts are about a different generation. Still,it might be of interest to you: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-3rd-gen-2001-2006/790245-whirring-noise-when-accelerating.html

So I went to a Lexus specialist to figure out the problem (whirring noise on cold start-up and acceleration). After about a day, they called me and told me there was some debris build up that was blocking the transmission filter, in turn blocking the flow of the transmission fluid. They flushed everything out and replaced the filter. The sound is now gone, and my Lexus sounds great! After doing some research, it is only bad if there are metal debris clogging the filter/in the pan? I am worried that this problem will arise again and maybe take a turn for the worse. Any thoughts on this? . . .

(Author indicated that the problem was fixed but returned):

Everything seemed fine until this past week. The whirring noise started to appear again. I just dropped my car off at the shop today and they will do a flush-drain service again. But the head mechanic is worried that because the problem reappeared so quickly (4 months), the transmission may be going bad. He said the debris is probably from the transmission itself and I might have to replace the whole transmission (4-5 thousand dollars). It hit me pretty hard. So for the time being, I am just getting a flush and refill (they will clear the debris from the filter) so the sound goes away. I will take the car elsewhere for a second opinion but the shop I took it to is the only Lexus specialist on the island unless I take it to the dealership... Has anyone ever heard of the transmission failing in these cars? Mine is an 02 with 60k miles. I am definitely hoping that I won't have to change the transmission.. If anyone has any experience or thoughts on this, I would like to hear it. Thanks again for the help guys..

Comments: That's a start. Certainly, there must be a restriction, either in this filter, or in the exhaust, or perhaps in the catalytic converter. It would be WISE to have an enhanced diagnostics and/or live data scan because either one (or both) my show some specific anomalous readings, and those readings would be good clues for diagnosis. A bidirectional tool that could read transmission temperature might be useful, in ruling "in or out" the tranny. Collecting a sample of the fluid might be instructive, as well, in ruling the tranny "in or out."

I can't say I know, because I don't. But, diagnostic data is going to be needed. That much I do know.

It sounds like it’s your wheel bearing/s. It sounds similar to this, doesn’t it? (watch from 03:45) -
